The Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7a were joined on stage today at Google’s I/O conference by the Pixel Fold, the company’s long-discussed, oft-leaked, and recently-anticipated first foldable smartphone.

It measures 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1mm when folded and 139.7 x 158.7 x 5.8mm when unfolded, weighing 283g. It’s rated IPX8 for water resistance (not dust, though, keep that in mind). The external screen is a 5.8-inch OLED 1080×2092 17.4:9 120Hz with Gorilla Glass Victus on top and HDR brightness up to 1,200 nits and max brightness of 1,550 nits.

The internal screen is OLED, 7.6″ diagonal, has a 6:5 aspect ratio, 2208×1840 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, ultra-thin glass with a plastic protective layer on top, HDR brightness up to 1,000 nits, and maximum brightness of 1,450 nits.

The hinge features “smooth friction throughout its 180-degree range of motion to securely support different postures.” The phone is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 SoC with Titan M2 security coprocessor. You get 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

There are three cameras on the back: a 48MP main camera with 1/2″ sensor size, 0.8μm pixel width, f/1.7 aperture and OIS, a 10.8MP ultrawide with 1/2″ sensor size 3-inch 1.25 μm pixel width, and f/2.2 aperture and a 10.8 MP 5x optical zoom telephoto lens with 1/3.1-inch sensor, 1.22 μm pixel width, f/3.05 aperture and support for Super Res Zoom up to 20x.

On the outer screen is a 9.5MP fixed focus camera with 1.22μm pixel width and f/2.2 aperture, while the inner screen has an 8MP snapper which is also fixed focus , and pixel width of 1.12 μm with f/2.0 aperture.

A fingerprint sensor is built into the power button, there’s dual-SIM support but only one physical SIM slot (the second SIM must be eSIM), stereo speakers, and a 4,821mAh battery that supports USB-C charger Google’s 30W with USB-PD 3.0, sold separately (there is no charger in the package). The phone obviously runs Android 13.

It’s already up for pre-order in the US for $1,799 in two colors: Porcelain and Obsidian, and will be available next month. If you book, you will receive a free Pixel Watch. Going forward, the Pixel Fold will also be sold through the Google Store in Germany, Japan and the UK, but not in other countries where Google offers its other phones. However, it may still arrive on other shores through third-party resellers.
