The Threads social network owned by Meta is finally available in Europe and, more precisely, in the 27 member countries of the European Union.
The Twitter rival (now called X) arrived in the UK and US last summer and hit 100 million registered users in its first week of existence.
It is accessible on threads.net by both registered and unregistered users, while smartphone owners can also download the app for the full experience from Google Play and App Store.

Threads remain closely tied to Instagram, and you cannot post threads without an Instagram account. Both apps are strongly integrated with each other: a thread can be easily shared as a story, a direct message, or even an Instagram post. Going the other way around, from Instagram to Threads, isn’t as intuitive as we would have liked, but it’s possible.
However, there remains a big problem with EU regulations. The Digital Markets Act was introduced to “level the playing field” and stop Big Tech from abusing their own platforms. Meta will have to react until March 2024 to untie the complicated knot that is the link between Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and now – Threads.

The way Threads works is similar to X: a user can post, repost, share with friends, send a DM, and most importantly, combine a series of posts into one thread. The threads caught on quickly, taking advantage of Twitter’s chaos and its rebranding to X by its new owner and CEO Elon Musk, and linking with Instagram accounts also helped immensely.
Now, the question is: can new social media keep up and serve disgruntled Twitter users? We’ll keep an eye on this.
