Samsung suggests using the same main camera sensor used in the Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Galaxy S23 and S23+ in the upcoming Galaxy S24/S24+ and Galaxy S25/S25+. The report comes from Revegnus on X and debunks a previous report that Samsung will switch to a Sony-made sensor for the Galaxy S25/S25+.
The Galaxy S23 and S23+ have adopted the ISOCELL GN3 sensor, a 50 MP 1/1.56-inch optical format with 1.0 µm pre-binned pixels. The GN3 replaced the GN5 within the Galaxy S22 series: another 1/1.56-inch imager with 1.0 µm pixels with slightly different frame rates at certain resolutions (slower at 50 MP, faster at 12 ,5 MP).
The 50MP sensor isn’t bad at all – it’s on the larger side of the spectrum. Sensor aside, future phones could upgrade both the optics and lenses placed in front of the sensor, as well as faster and more sophisticated image processors within the latest chipsets.
There is also the benefit of using a part longer: more consistent image processing and easier production and manufacturing.
