introduction

Realme GT series phones tend to be limited to the Chinese market and we may not be there, but we have connections – that’s how this GT5 Pro ended up on our testbed. The latest in a series of high-end devices includes the latest top-tier Snapdragon, an intriguing camera system and a super bright display – how disappointed will we ultimately be if this isn’t the case? sold outside its country of origin?

Realme GT5 Pro review

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be the default top-tier chipset for 2024, and we’ve started to get more and more devices with it – hardly anything special in itself, but an integral part of most special packages for the coming months. With a base memory configuration of 12GB/256GB, the GT5 Pro is decently-specced already, but if you want more, it goes up to 16GB/1TB (which appears to be the trim level of our review unit).

The ultrawide end of the triple camera is decidedly unremarkable, but improves as you increase the zoom range. The main camera is more or less the same as the Find N3 (which we loved), while the telephoto lens appears to have been taken from the Find X6 Pro – it’s flagship hardware if we’ve ever seen one.

The display is apparently all new, and Realme boasts a peak brightness of 4,500 nits – while we know we won’t see it on our meters, it’s definitely going to be a bright panel. It’s also compatible with 144Hz and Dolby Vision, so it should be better than your average screen.

The rest of the specs aren’t too bad either. A 5,400mAh battery is slightly higher than the regular 5,000mAh power supply, while the 100W charger promises quick charges. The IP64 rating seems like Realme doesn’t want to get embroiled in warranty disputes over the drowned GT5 Pro, but it’s still the brand’s most dust-resistant phone, with decent waterproofing too. An infrared emitter and a heart rate monitor in the fingerprint reader are also worth mentioning in the category of small goodies.

Unboxing of Realme GT5 Pro

The GT5 Pro arrived at our doors in a box that is not typical of the company’s global releases. That said, it’s very similar to the packaging of the non-Pro GT5 240W, also destined for China, that we received earlier this year: a glossy stripe on black cardboard appears to be this generation’s signature.

The retail package includes a somewhat nondescript gray protective case with a leather-like texture on the back that fools no one: It may not be entirely stylish, but it’s functional, we’ll grant you that. We’re a little more excited about the 100W charger, complemented by a USB-A-to-C cable.
