ZTE has taken the basic design of the Axon 40 SE and rearranged it into a more capable mid-ranger dubbed the ZTE Voyage 40 Pro+. This version adds 5G, improves cameras, boosts charging, and even has a van Gogh-inspired special edition (similar to the Nubia Z40S Pro Starry Night Edition).

The basic design is the same as the Axon with two circular camera islands and a split look on the back. However, the main camera in the upper island now has a 64MP sensor (up from 50MP). The other two modules are still a 5 MP macro cam and a 2 MP depth sensor. Up front, the punch-hole selfie camera has been upgraded to a 16MP sensor (up from 8MP).

A more significant change is the chipset. Gone is the Unisoc T618, in its place a Dimensity 810. Not only does it offer 5G connectivity, it also offers more performance. This will be further enhanced by doubling the RAM to 8GB (with an option for up to 6GB of virtual RAM). Storage has also doubled to 256GB, and the microSD slot remains in place.

Further improvements include a 4,510mAh battery that now charges at 66W, compared to the Axon’s 22.5W charging 4,500mAh battery. The new model is a bit heavier, weighing in at 192.5g (compared to 182g).

The 6.67″ AMOLED display on the front has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 px (20:9) and 100% DCI-P3 coverage, peak brightness at 770 nits.

The ZTE Voyage 40 Pro+ is now available for pre-order in China, you can find it for CNY 2,200 ($305/€295/₹25,000) in Sky Blue and Twilight Grey. The first open sale will start on December 12th. However, there is also a more artistic option.

It is inspired again by van Gogh’s The Starry Night, however, the image is not as prominent as it was on Nubia. Here it is achieved with a special lithography process which etches the famous swirling image into the glass. This special edition costs the same, CNY 2,200.
