Despite domestic competition in China, Apple’s new iPhone 15 series managed to outsell last year’s iPhone 14 family. According to one of the country’s largest online retailers, JD.com, which has partnered with over 4,000 Apple resellers, the first two hours of launch saw a 253% increase over last year.

The iPhone 15 series shatters sales records in China

This signals huge interest in the new iPhones, and to everyone’s surprise, orders from customers in lower-tier cities have increased six-fold. Despite the higher price, iPhone adoption appears to be spreading outside major Chinese cities.

According to market analysts, the average selling price of smartphones in the country exceeds $450 and will likely continue to rise in the coming quarters. So the sudden increase in iPhone sales aligns with the trends in the Chinese market to some extent.
