And he’s looking to partner with some of the big names in the photography industry to take it the next step.

A chat with Tecno: the company is working on innovations for smartphone cameras

The end result is one of the best portrait cameras we’ve ever tested, one with a quirky retractable design, combining a large sensor and wide aperture that result in lovely natural bokeh without computational trickery.

That camera is on the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro, which we recently reviewed. But Tecno doesn’t stop there. The company confirmed that it is in talks with established lens manufacturers for future product development.

Tecno didn’t mention any names, but we will certainly hear more about them in the coming months. Hasselblad, Leica and Zeiss are already collaborating with smartphone makers, so we can rule them out, but there’s no shortage of big names left.
