The DJI Mavic 3 was unveiled a year ago with a price tag of € 2,100 for the base package and although the price has dropped slightly since then, it may still be too expensive for some. Instead, they may be interested in the new Classic version.

Here’s the short version: The DJI Mavic 3 Classic costs $ 1,600 / € 1,600 (with the RC-N1 controller), down from $ 2,050 / € 1,930 for the regular version. However, the second camera is missing, the one with the 162mm telephoto lens. While there is no optical magnification here, the drone offers 3x digital zoom.

That still means you get the Hasselblad-branded camera with the excellent 20MP 4 / 3rds sensor and a 24mm lens with a variable aperture (f / 2.8 to f / 11). It can take 12-bit RAW photos and 10-bit D-Log videos.

Speaking of video, the Classic can record video up to 5.1K at 24-50fps, DCI 4K up to 120fps and 1080p up to 200fps. H.264 and H.265 codecs are supported at 200 Mbps bitrates. Note also that there is 8 GB of onboard storage (and a microSD slot, of course).

The flight characteristics are the same: up to 46 minutes of flight and up to 30 km (18.6 mi) of flight distance (the Classic uses the same batteries). The drone is compatible with existing DJI RC-N1, RC and RC Pro controllers and can transmit HD video up to 15 km (9.3 mi) thanks to the O3 + system. If you already have one of those controllers, you can only get the drone for $ 1,470 / € 1,500.

The camera is mounted on the same 3-axis gimbal for stabilization. The Classic is also equipped with the same suite of sensors in all directions to avoid obstacles. In calm conditions, the drone can reach speeds of 21 m / s (75 km / h, although in the EU it is limited to 19 m / s). And if the weather isn’t that good, the drone can cope with winds of 12m / s.

The classic is one of the heaviest consumer drones with 895g. However, it is the first to receive the new C1 certificate in Europe, which means that users can fly in the A1 Open category without the A2 remote pilot license.
