Xiaomi has announced the Redmi Pad SE and we have just had the tablet with us for a review. It’s advertised as a budget entertainment device, and we’re eager to see how it fares for the low price it’s offered.

Our unit is in the hero color Lavender Purple, and we also have a cover that acts as a case, as well as a stand. This Redmi Pad SE has

4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage – the cheapest variant – which still has all the cool features like the big screen and battery.

The chipset is a Snapdragon 680, built on the 6nm process technology. It’s a fairly old platform, having arrived in early 2021, but we don’t expect a powerhouse in this price category. In fact, this could be a great SoC for the Redmi Pad SE – we’ll know for sure after running our regular tests and benchmarks. Our first impressions of performance are that the UI is smooth, and 90Hz could prove worthy when browsing or using the native player.

Speaking of the user interface, Xiaomi has introduced MIUI Pad 14, which is an adapted version of MIUI 14 for large screens. The apps feel native and not extended; the video looks good too. The 11-inch LCD is certified for low blue light, meaning it would make a great device for reading and learning. In theory, it can hit 400 nits and 1500:1 contrast, but again we need to use our tools to determine how authentic these results are in real-life scenarios.

There are four speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio support, positioned 2×2 on the right and left side (when held horizontally), and we’re happy enough to see a 3.5mm audio jack; after all, not everyone who buys a €200 tablet can also afford wireless earphones.

The battery has a capacity of 8,000mAh, which looks promising for an endurance test. However, it is rated for 10W which means that it would take some time for the cell to go from 0 to 100% with the charger that comes in the box. This is rather disappointing because we know that Xiaomi could provide faster speed – there is a Redmi Note 11 with the same chip that comes with 33W fast charging via PD 3.0.

The tablet also features dual cameras, although we’re not the ones who would advocate taking pictures with an 11-inch device. We’ll have our final recommendations once the review is posted, so stay tuned!
