The one update OnePlus skipped on the Nord 3 may have been the update that mattered most: the camera. The phone has a bigger and better display than its predecessor, a bigger battery and also a faster Dimension 9000 chip.

It’s not that the camera hasn’t been updated: the IMX890 sensor produced better images than the IMX766 inside the Nord 2. Not perfect (we found them overprocessed), but better. And now 4K video can be recorded at 60fps. However, the ultra-wide-angle camera remained disappointing (only 8MP resolution with a narrower 112° field of view) and the resolution of the selfie camera was halved.

Even so, 1 in 3 voters in last week’s poll like what they see. They greenlit OnePlus’ extended software support and software in general: Poco F5 and F5 Pro have been mentioned several times as alternatives, but some people just don’t like MIUI.

The Dimension 9000 is another selling point, we like to see older flagship chips in the mid-range as they have better GPUs than mid-range chips that are a year or two younger – the 9000 beats the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, for example.

That said, some people like the phone, they just think it’s too expensive for what it offers at €500/₹34,000. Sales will increase once the right discount is reached.

Some of the complaints from those with no interest in the Nord 3 were easy to predict: with a 6.74-inch display, this phone is too big for some people, especially considering the Nord 2 had an average-sized display of 6.43 inches.

Turning to OnePlus Nord CE 3, many consider it a “maybe” – it all depends on how it performs in the reviews. Some like the CE well enough to give it a try without waiting for reviews, but nearly as many people think the regular Nord 3 is the better choice.

While the CE 3 is only available in India (for now), very few have chosen the “not available near me” option, which suggests that OnePlus has found the perfect market for this phone.
