The controversial tactical military shooter Six Days in Fallujah is back in development, with Highwire Games now hard at work on the game.

The title, based on the real-world Second Battle of Fallujah during the Second Gulf War, was originally canceled in 2009 after Konami and Atomic Games received criticism for seemingly glorifying the war.

The resurrected project is at work at Highwire Games, a studio made up of former developers who worked at Bungie on Halo and Destiny. Victura, a publisher created by former Atomic Games CEO Peter Tamte, is handling the distribution.

According to a press release, the developer worked directly with Iraqi military personnel and civilians who were present during the bloody battle. These personal stories will be told directly in the title through gameplay and first-hand accounts. Highwire Games hopes to focus on “uncertainty and the tactics of modern combat”.

Six Days in Fallujah will launch on PC and consoles later in 2021.
