The latest patch of Horizon Forbidden West improves the game in many ways. Players can expect improved graphics, improved gameplay, improved missions, and more.

The patch information is provided to us by a post on Guerilla Games’ Reddit. That post details everything players achieve with patch 1.06. Players may be particularly excited to hear that several mission bugs have been fixed, including Aloy getting stuck in the floor during Seeds of the Past. Players who have completed 100% of the game will now see a recognition in the main menu, and some of the intermittent graphics issues that players have experienced (such as items popping up at different levels of detail) have now been fixed.

There are other interesting improvements, including the fact that bonfires no longer trigger haptic feedback. And, after this patch, Aloy won’t make so many mentions of him damn stash anymore. Although we have a feeling that he won’t reduce the overall number of memes celebrating this character quirkiness.

  • Fixed an issue in the main mission “Reach for the Stars” where Aloy could get stuck in a falling animation when grabbing a collapsing climbing point and simultaneously using the Pullcaster on a grappling hook.
  • Fixed an issue in the main mission “Reach for the Stars” where a sudden change in sunlight would occur when Aloy was walking through a certain point inside the shuttle tower.
  • Fixed an issue in the main mission “Gate of Death” where reloading from a certain save would cause Firegleam to repeat the explosion.
  • Fixed an issue in the main mission “The Dying Lands” where Aloy and her companions were snowed inside the cauldron.
  • Fixed an issue in the Shattered Sky main mission where Kotallo could sometimes get distracted and step away from the ongoing activity, which could block further progression.
  • Fixed an issue in the Shattered Sky main mission where Aloy would be put into an unwanted pose when reloading a certain save.
  • Fixed an issue in the main mission “The Kulrut” where an objective marker led to a blocked path.
  • Fixed an issue in the ‘Seeds of the Past’ main mission where Alva would sometimes be unable to reach the console, blocking progression.
  • Fixed an issue in the ‘Seeds of the Past’ main mission where reloading the save after killing the machines outside the Elm Test Station would spawn Aloy stuck in the floor.
  • Fixed an issue in the ‘Singularity’ main mission where reloading a certain save would cause a certain line of dialogue to appear incorrectly.

Secondary missions

  • Fixed an issue in “The Blood Choke” side mission where Atekka would not move into position when needed, thus blocking progression.
  • Fixed an issue in the “Headland” side mission where reloading from a save after the “Investigate the Bridge” objective would place the player in Plainsong.
  • Tempered the vigilance of the machines in the secondary mission “The Wound in the Sand”, so that they no longer enter a suspicious state immediately after being reloaded by a certain save.
  • Fixed an issue in the “A Tribe Apart” side quest where reloading a save created after opening the metal flower in Riverwatch would cause vines to regenerate.

World activities

  • Fixed an infinite black screen occurring after hiding the Champion’s Lance and then starting any Chainscrape Melee Pit Tutorial or Challenge, or a Fixed Gear Challenge in the Arena.
  • Fixed an issue in Cauldron Mu where a platform at the end of the cauldron could lag behind, trapping the player below.
  • Fixed an issue in The Stillsands: Pristine Bellowback Rescue Agreement where the wrong machine corpse was spawned when reloading from the save after defeating the machine.
  • Fixed an issue in Machine Strike where the player was no longer able to attack after choosing to repeat the unit’s combat power instructions.
  • Fixed an issue in Machine Strike where the compass would appear on the screen after the player retried a lost game.
  • Fixed an issue where a wild loading screen could appear in the Arena menu after returning from a challenge.
  • Fixed an issue where Scavenger Machines would not appear after killing other types of machines in certain habitats.
  • Fixed an issue with dome views where icons were not displaying correctly after reloading a save.
  • Fixed an issue in Salvage Contract: The Lost Supplies where the mission could not be delivered under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue with the song “The World on His Shoulders” repeating if the player used fast travel after climbing a signal tower. Please note that this has not been fixed for players who have already experienced this issue, we are studying a separate solution for this.

User interface / UX

  • Removed haptic feedback when standing next to a campfire and when traveling fast if the vibration intensity sliders are set to 0.
  • Fixed an issue where a Vista image would appear in front of a Black Box collectible in the menu.

Graphics

  • Fixed multiple instances of objects in the world visibly sprouting between different levels of detail.
  • Fixed an issue in Photo Mode where parts of Aloy’s dress and body would become blurry in certain poses.
  • Improved visual differentiation of attack and movement indicators in Machine Strike.
  • Fixed a cosmetic issue with the underwater cube map.
  • Fixed an issue where a blurry artifact was visible around the heavy crossbow when used in combat.
  • Fixed several instances where the camera flickered and behaved unintentionally.
  • Several craftable quest items had the wrong model in the workbench interface, those have now been replaced with the final resources.
  • Fixed an issue with parallax mapped foam by removing the variable height scale in favor of a constant value; when the original dynamic input value got too high, it started to separate parallax layers. To correct for the ugly separation of the layers at jaw-dropping angles, the height scale is set by some Fresnel-based logic.
  • Fixed several instances of NPCs in settlements not showing the correct level of detail when playing the PS4 version of the game.
  • Fixed an issue in the Chainscrape Tavern where moving the camera to a certain point caused sudden changes in lighting.
  • Improved noise reduction on the ambient occlusion of the screen space.
  • Reduced the intensity of the vignette screen effect when triggering Value Pulse and when Aloy was at low health.

Performance and stability

  • Multiple crash fixes.
  • Fixed multiple assets being displayed or streamed visibly during cutscenes.
  • Fixed several unintentional loading screens / black screens triggering at specific points.
