Details about the cameras of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have more or less clarified, so the focus is now on future models. Samsung will update the wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras on its Ultra models between now and 2026, according to a tipster Revegnus.

According to their roadmap, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will move to a 50MP sensor with 0.7µm pixels for its periscope camera. The current S23 has a 10MP sensor with 1.12µm pixels. The 2024 model will give the user the choice between larger pixels with binning or increased zoom without. Samsung has already hinted that it is working on high-resolution sensors for telecameras.

The main camera will remain as it is now. A year later, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will represent a major update, perhaps the biggest of the three. The main lens will have a new lens, and the ultra-wide-angle module will be upgraded to a 50 MP sensor (up from 12 MP on the Ultra S23 and S24).

Even more interesting is what will happen to the periscope: it should get a variable focal length, something only Sony offers at the moment. This will allow the camera to hold off on in-sensor zoom until it reaches the end of the optical zoom, improving the quality of zoom shots.

With the Galaxy S26 Ultra the main camera sensor will finally be updated: it will go from the current 1/1.3” 0.6μm to 1.1” 0.7μm. The resolution will remain at 200MP.

By the way, we’ve heard that the Galaxy S25 and S25+ will also have new sensors, but the changes will be less extensive than their Ultra sibling. Still a year away, however, the S24 series will arrive first and is expected in mid-January.
