WWDC 2022 will start on June 6, and Apple will, among other things, introduce iOS 16. However, the public may receive it a little later than usual. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman tweeted that there is some uncertainty behind the scenes.

Apple normally waits until the second beta of a new version of iOS before releasing it for public consumption (early betas often have many bugs to fix, making them unsuitable for public consumption). This year, the first public version of iOS 16 could wait until the third beta.

This may suggest that there has been a speed increase in the development process – current builds are flawed, according to the reporter. However, Gurman says things are “fluid and could change”. We should have more after WWDC, but it is possible that we will have to wait until July to try the new version.

According to Gurman, iOS 16 and co. it will bring better notification handling, new health monitoring features and other changes. Some are device specific, for example iPadOS 16 might have a revamped multitasking UI, while watchOS 9 might add new health monitoring features to complement the changes on the iPhone side. A new branch, dubbed rOS, is allegedly in development for Apple’s possibly delayed VR headset.
