introduction

The name is familiar: Motorola’s with Edge 30 have been around since the beginning of the year. But the Edge 30 Ultra it is part of the latest batch of three models announced for the world just last week, and is the top of the range. Let’s see what it is.

But first – a little more nomenclature. As usual, a smartphone already available in China with a different name is the alter ego of the Edge 30 Ultra: the Moto X30 Pro. At this point, we don’t think there are plans for availability in North America, but if the past experience is indicative, there will likely be another name for essentially the same phone there (again, Self the phone reaches North American markets).

Back to Edge 30 Ultra. The phone boasts some big numbers in multiple areas, starting with the 200MP main camera, the first implementation of that sensor to come to our doorstep. And that’s not all, of course: keeping him company is a 50 MP ultrawide with autofocus and a telephoto lens, albeit more modest with the specifications (2x, 12 MP). The selfie camera takes us back to the megapixel race with its 60 MP resolution.

Adding to the competition in another numbers game, the Edge 30 Ultra’s display can refresh to 144Hz – not the first time for a Moto, but hardly common outside of gaming phones. The charging power is impressive too – the phone supports 125W charging and comes bundled with an adapter that can match it.

Being Motorola’s flagship, the Edge 30 Ultra is powered by the latest top-tier Snapdragon (8+ Gen 1) and has plenty of oomph to facilitate “ready to go” functionality – Motorola’s version of a desktop experience driven by your Phone. There are also traditional niceties like stereo speakers, wireless charging, and an under-display fingerprint sensor, but the IP52 rating makes us want more – Motorola could have made the extra effort for proper water resistance on a phone that starts. from € 900.

The content of our sales package includes a 125W TurboPower adapter, a USB-C cable and a transparent protective case. The phone itself also has a pre-applied screen protector. Both are included in select countries, so don’t be surprised if your Edge 30 Ultra ships without one or both. Likewise, some countries will receive a USB-C headset, which is missing in our box.
