Apple has relied on the Dynamic Island pill-shaped cutout for the last two iterations of its iPhone Pro models, but the long-term goal is to move to an “all-screen” iPhone with no physical display cutouts. That day is not relatively close according to the latest Korean news report The Elec which suggests that the first iPhone with Under Display Camera (UDC) should be launched after 2026.

LG Innotek is now in “advanced development” of its UD cameras that feature the company’s proprietary free-form optical lens system. This new development will ensure optimal light passage for better image quality, which is one of the current bottlenecks in UD cameras. Apple reportedly received UDC samples from its suppliers but found them to be unsatisfactory.

Ross Young who serves as CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) suggest that Apple is expected to switch to a Face ID UD sensor on its Pro series iPhones by 2025, while the first full-screen iPhone with UD camera and Face ID is expected to launch in 2027.
