introduction

Advanced camera stabilization, larger battery, yet a more premium build – looking at the spec sheet, these are perhaps the key improvements the Oppo Find X5 Pro brings over last year’s model. It might not seem like much at first glance, but the Find X3 Pro was good enough to be difficult to improve; moreover, all too often, true progress is more significant than seemingly minor differences in specification.

Starting with the camera, we see essentially the same setup as last year – two large sensor units for main and ultrawide and a telephoto lens make up the usual trio. And while the telephoto lens can be relatively modest in both sensor size and range, the other two are fully loaded – the main camera offers a mix of lens stabilization and sensor shift. At the same time, the ultrawide has autofocus and both are built around large, high-resolution sensors. There is also the internal MariSilicon X image processing chip whose inner workings may not be fully understood, but we should be able to appreciate the results.

It’s easy to spot the Find X3 Pro’s absence of the 3MP microscope unit. As unique as it may have been, it was certainly of limited practical use, so we won’t miss it too much.

This year’s model has been subject to an increase in battery capacity – it’s now at 5,000mAh, so the Find no longer feels under-equipped for longevity.

It should also be better in terms of physical durability, thanks to the switch to ceramic for the back – it’s twice as hard as glass, says Oppo.

A top spec display is mandatory at this level, and the Find X5 Pro’s 6.7-inch AMOLED LTPO2 appears to be just that – the 10-bit panel has a dynamically adjustable high refresh rate, QHD resolution, and support HDR. Of course, Find gets the 2022 flagship Snapdragon chipset, lots of RAM and storage, fast charging, and Android 12 with a layer of ColorOS on top.

The retail package for our global variant includes an 80W SuperVOOC adapter and cable to match it – these are proprietary peripherals and are required if you want to achieve the fastest possible charging speeds.

Oppo also bundled a protective case: a translucent white one with a texture inside. The Victus Gorilla Glass-coated display also has an additional top layer: a factory-applied plastic screen protector. No more headphones, though: the previous generation still had them, this one didn’t.
