Tecno just unveiled its Phantom V Flip, the company’s first foldable clamshell smartphone. It has a circular external OLED screen with two cameras and an LED flash in the ring around it, while inside there is a 6.9-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display.
The Phantom V Flip is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 8050 chipset with an octa-core CPU that runs up to 3.0GHz. It was announced with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, expandable up to 8GB more via the Extended Memory software feature.
The foldable 22:9 panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate and reaches a brightness of 1,000 nits. The 1.32″ external display offers several widgets, serves notifications and can be used as a viewfinder for taking selfies with the most powerful cameras.
There is a 64MP main camera with a 1/1.73-inch sensor, f/1.7 aperture lens and PDAF. The other is a 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter that also features autofocus.
The internal camera is located inside a punch-hole and has a 32 MP sensor.
When unfolded, the device is 171mm tall and less than 7mm thick, and Tecno has packed a 4,000mAh battery inside – a relatively large two-cell solution for its class. The phone supports 45W wired charging with the adapter provided in the box and Tecno said it would only take 15 minutes to fill the battery halfway.
The Tecno Phantom V Flip comes with a customized personal assistant called EllaGPT, which offers “smart features”, which is Tecno’s answer to Google, Siri, Bixby or Celia.
