Samsung Display unveiled its new prototype display and hinge that folds both inward and outward. The “Flex In & Out” concept allows the hinge to bend the device 360 degrees creating a significantly less visible crease.
The prototype was demonstrated at The limitwhich did not provide any information that the new panel and hinge will be ready for commercial products soon.

The display features a new hinge design that allows the device to fold completely instead of leaving a small water drop-shaped hole in the fold. The prototype was photographed next to a Galaxy Z Fold smartphone, revealing that it will be as thick as the current foldable. However, we can see some movement mechanisms that allow the panel to fold comfortably without stretching.

Such a design would enable a new class of devices without the need for a display overlay. This in turn will create more room for bigger batteries and bigger camera sensors without making the phone too thick. We just hope to see it soon in a commercialized product.
