One of the issues people have consistently had with Samsung’s Flip line of foldable smartphones is battery life, due to the rather small cells packed into all of these smartphones: the Galaxy Z Flip5 launched last summer has to make do with just 3,700 mAh, for example.

Samsung seems to have listened and will increase the capacity of the next Galaxy Z Flip6, which is expected to go official mid-this year. According to a new report, the next Flip will reach 4,000 mAh.

That’s still less than Oppo’s Find N3 Flip which has a 4,300mAh battery, but it’s closer than ever. And while on paper the increase is only about 8% from the Flip5 to the Flip6, Flip owners need every extra bit of longevity they can get.

Like all foldables, the Flip6’s total battery capacity is split between two cells, one on each side. One of them has a nominal capacity of 1,097 mAh and the other of 2,790 mAh. The total is 3,887 mAh valued capacity, which should translate into 4,000 mAh typical capacity as the vanilla S24 has a rated capacity of 3,880mAh which is advertised as a typical capacity of 4,000mAh.

For comparison, note that the Galaxy Z Flip5 has one 971 mAh cell, the other 2,620 mAh, for a grand total of 3,591 mAh of nominal capacity, which translates to the aforementioned typical capacity of 3,700 mAh.

According to previous rumors, the Galaxy Z Flip6 will have a 3.9″ display, 0.5″ more than the 3.4″ panel mounted on its predecessor. It should also have a 50 MP main camera, more than to the 12 MP one of the Flip5.
