Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro earlier this month and the event also saw the introduction of the Galaxy Buds2 Pro. We had a chance to get the wearables for a quick hands-on session which was released right after the launch on 10 August.

We now have all the gadgets with us at HQ and are ready to get started with our in-depth testing for a full blown overhaul. But first, let’s see what we got from Samsung:

Our Galaxy Buds2 Pro are white and come in a matching case. Samsung has gone from glossy to matte plastic that keeps fingerprints at bay. The earbuds are easy to get dirty while wearing them and have no shiny plastic to remind you that every time you wear them it feels good.

Matte plastic also has a different feel – it has a better grip and allows for better handling and makes it easier to insert the buds and take them out of the ears. The Buds2 Pros look similar to non-pros, but there is now a larger inward-facing microphone to properly pick up sounds that need to be suppressed during calls or when ANC is on.

The Galaxy Watch5 we got is the 40mm rose gold variant with an aluminum body. The strap and metal frame are in the designated color, but the actual body around the 1.2 “display is black. Also, there is no rotating bezel this year as we don’t get the Classic edition.

The strap has a rather simple closure with holes and a pin that allows for several levels of adjustment. It is said to be “fluoroelastomer” which is technically not rubber, despite having the same look and feel. The design is the same as the Galaxy Watch4, but there are major changes under the hood: the latest UI and a larger battery with 10W fast charging.

Samsung replaced the Classic with a wearable Pro this year. The Watch5 Pro is better than the vanilla Watch5 in many ways, including having the largest battery ever in a Samsung smartwatch: 590mAh. It has a titanium frame, which in our case is Gray. The strap which has a greenish hue and a more sophisticated adjustment mechanism.

The D-buckle strap design, as the company calls it, allows you to adjust the length for a seamless look, although it may take some getting used to. The screen measures 1.4 inches OLED, corresponding to the larger non-Pro Watch5, but it has a raised edge here. It’s mostly there for the aesthetics, however, as the sapphire crystal is so durable that it hardly needs additional protection.

Reviews of all three wearables are already underway and we’ll be sharing our findings with you soon. Stay tuned!
