The original Nothing Phone (1) is now catching up with its newer sibling with the Nothing OS 2.0 update. The update has just started, but it’s an incremental process so you’ll need some patience.

Please note that this software version is based on Android 13. The phone (1) was originally launched with Android 12 and got version 13 with Nothing OS 1.5. A future Nothing OS based on Android 14 is in beta.

Anyway, back to Nothing OS 2.0. The update weighs just under a gigabyte, which is nice to see (nothing keeps things light enough). This software used to be running on the phone (2) and now the phone owners (1) get some of the new features.

Personalization is one of the main goals of this release. The design of the Nothing widgets has been updated and the Nothing launcher now has a refined grid layout, lets you hide icon labels, and folders are more customizable too. A monochrome icon pack is available if you like that style.

The Glyph interface is also now at version 2.0 with two new features. First, Essential Notifications allows selected contacts and apps to leave a persistent notification. Secondly, Glyph Torch can be used as a flashlight, just long press the Flashlight switch in the notification shade.

Nothing OS 2.0 also brings useful app features. Cloned apps allow you to use multiple accounts in apps that don’t natively support it. The App Locker allows you to hide sensitive apps behind biometric authentication.

If you still haven’t received the notification, go to Settings, System, System Update to check manually. Again, it may take a while for the update to reach your phone.
