Carl Pei, CEO and founder of Nothing, spoke to Forbes for an extensive article, revealing already known facts about the Ear (1) and Phone (1), and also shared some new details about the upcoming Ear (2).

The new wearable audio will support LHDC 5.0 (Low Latency HD Audio Codec), meaning any certified high-resolution audio will play in all its glory. It’s a codec that streams higher-quality audio over Bluetooth, and Pei said he’s reached out to Spotify about upgrading their library to LHDC.

Additionally, the ear (2) will be rated IP54, which is limited ingress protection against dust particles and water splashes.

Sales of the Nothing Ear (1) in the US were 1/3 of the total of 600,000, and Pei revealed that the next Nothing phone will also be heading to the North American market. He said it will be “a huge opportunity for the company” in 2023.

The company revealed on Twitter that the team of experts working on the Ear (2) has increased by 30% to 700 people. Testing of the new wearable was done on more than 120 phones and laptops, a 52% increase over the 70 devices used to test the ear (1).

Nothing Ear (2) is scheduled to arrive on March 22, and the launch will be live streamed so that all interested can follow.
