LG has unveiled the range of UltraGear OLED gaming monitors that it will present during CES 2024. Chief among these is the new 32GS95UE, which has an interesting trick up its sleeve.
The 32-inch 32GS95UE features what LG calls Dual-Hz. This allows the monitor to switch between two modes, one in which it runs the display at its native 4K resolution (3840×2160) with a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz, and the other in which it can run it at a reduced FullHD resolution (1920×1080) but at the panel’s maximum refresh rate of 480 Hz.
The user can easily switch between modes using a hotkey or the joystick on the monitor. Changing modes should cause the system to see the display as 4K 240Hz or 1080p 480Hz and scale accordingly. So it seems like the panel is artificially limited to 240Hz at 4K, but it’s not like you can actually access all 480Hz at 4K using current display standards.
The 32GS95UE also offers 98.5% DCI-P3 coverage, 0.03ms GtG response times, DisplayHDR True Black 400 support, and dual HDMI 2.1 ports. Unfortunately, the single DisplayPort is only rated 1.4 instead of the new DisplayPort 2.1, so you’ll have to rely heavily on Display Stream Compression (DSC) to access the full resolution and refresh rates the panel is capable of.
Finally, the 32GS95UE has an integrated speaker system consisting of dual woofers. The speakers are positioned directly behind the OLED panel and use the front surface to emit sound, which LG calls Pixel Sound technology. There’s also support for DTS Virtual:X via the speakers and the built-in headphone jack.
In addition to the 32GS95UE, LG also announced five other OLED monitors, including the 34- and 39-inch 34GS95QE and 39GS95QE models, which feature 3440×1440 curved panels with a 240Hz refresh rate, 800R curvature, and similar connectivity to the 32GS95UE.
Then there are also the 45GS95QE and the 45GS96QB, which are 45-inch 3440×1440 240Hz curved OLED monitors and the only difference between the two is that the 45GS96QB has built-in speakers and 65W USB-C charging. Finally, there is the 27GS95QE, which has a 27-inch 2560×1440 240Hz flat screen and similar features to previous models.
Pricing and availability will be announced during or after CES.
