Earlier this month, Google pulled a quick move on us by pretending it’s been planning a fifth beta of Android 14 all along, when last month it strongly implied that the fourth beta would be the last one before the stable release. . So we have Android 14 Beta 5.

Today is the Android 14 Beta 5.1 release, and as the slight increase implies, this is all about bug fixing. Hopefully the latest bugs. Let’s hope the final version isn’t far off. We hope, but we wouldn’t bet on anything right now given how bumpy the Android 14 beta ride has been so far.

Four fixes are listed in the official changelog for this release, but more things could have been changed behind the scenes without mention.

Android 14 Beta 5.1 arrives with last minute bug fixes

Here are the bugs that have been fixed: An issue that caused the system to stop detecting a SIM card if fixed dial features were enabled; one that caused connectivity outages for devices with carriers using 5G standalone mode; one that showed a blank home screen on some devices after unlocking; and finally, the “feather-style” live wallpaper was temporarily disabled, thus fixing a performance issue it was causing.

The live wallpaper in question will be turned back on, Google promises, after the other underlying issues are resolved. So in Beta 5.2 then? We’ll have to wait and see.
