Lenovo has presented a child-friendly tablet that fits between the Tab M8 and the Tab M10. It’s the Lenovo Tab M9 and – you guessed it! – has a 9” display. This tablet will be on the floor at CES 2023, but it is in no hurry to go to market as it will be launched in the second quarter (April-July). The base model will start at $140.
The tablet has a 9″ LCD display, a rather simple panel with a resolution of 1,340 x 800px (15:9). It offers up to 400 nits of brightness and 60% coverage of the NTSC color space. There is a camera 2MP on the front for video (and face unlock, there’s no fingerprint reader), plus an 8MP camera on the back.
The Tab M9 is certified to play HD content from Netflix, and its 5,100mAh battery promises to last up to 13 hours while streaming video. The binge-watching experience is further enhanced by dual speakers with Dolby Atmos. Connecting headphones to the 3.5mm jack is also an option.
The tablet is also capable of gaming with a Helio G80 chipset (2x Cortex-A75 @ 2.0GHz + 6x A55 @ 1.8GHz, plus a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU). The base model comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, but 4/64GB and 4/128GB options are also available. There’s also a microSD slot for up to 2TB of additional storage if you prefer local content over streaming.
Lenovo M9 board
The base model is equipped with Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1, also GPS. However, a 4G version will also be available for connectivity on the go. The USB-C port is wired for 2.0 speeds only, and the supplied charger is a rather slow 10W (although the tablet’s battery is the size of a smartphone).
Folio case for Lenovo Tab M9
Lenovo will offer a basic silicone protective case and a folio case with a built-in kickstand. The Tab M9 comes with Android 12 out of the box and several pre-installed apps – Google Kids Space, YouTube Kids, Netflix and more – which should give you an idea who this tablet is for.
Lenovo Tab M9 in Arctic Gray and Frost Blue
Lenovo has a lot more to show at CES, including a premium Tab Extreme slate and E-Ink tablet. CES 2023 starts on January 5th.
