JCB, the British heavy equipment manufacturer, is back on the smartphone scene with two new rugged Android phones. The JCB Toughphone and Toughphone Max are both MIL-SPEC 810G compliant and feature an IP68 rating for resistance against dust and water up to 1.5m for 30 minutes. The new devices feature a hardened polycarbonate frame and back with metal elements.

JCB Toughphone features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch that houses its 20MP front camera. Toughphone Max features a larger 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution and a 20MP selfie cam housed inside a hole. Both devices feature screens protected by Gorilla Glass with a rubber edge for added drop protection and pre-applied glass screen protectors.

Toughphone offers a single 20MP rear camera and an LED flash, while Toughphone Max features a 48MP main camera, a 16MP ultrawide module, a 2MP macro cam and a VGA module.

Both Toughphones are powered by MediaTek chipsets: Helio P22 on the Teoughphone along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and Dimensity 700 on the Toughphone Max (8/256GB). The JCB Toughphone comes with a 4,050mAh battery while its sibling Max ups the ante to a 12,200mAh cell that’s rated for up to 30 days of standby time. Toughphone launches Android 13 while Toughphone Max comes with Android 12.

The JCB Toughphone is available to order for £300 while the Toughphone Max is priced at £600. Deliveries start from mid-July.
