As part of its “Summer 2022 Smart Office Launch”, Huawei has unveiled a new 11 “MatePad Pro tablet. It advertises it as the world’s thinnest and lightest 11-inch tablet, measuring just 5.9mm and weighing 449 g.

This requires an asterisk, however, as last year’s iPad Pro 11 also measures 5.9mm and larger Samsung tablets are thinner. The weight of 449g is unbeatable in this size, however.

However, Huawei MatePad Pro 11 ”is equipped with a 120Hz OLED display with 2,560 x 1,600px resolution (16:10, 274ppi). This 10-bit panel has perfect color calibration (deltaE

In the announcement, CEO Richard Yu mentioned a 5nm Snapdragon chipset. However, the datasheet on the official website lists two models: one has the Snapdragon 888 (effectively a 5nm chip), the other uses a Snapdragon 870 (7nm). There are a few other differences, but we’ll get to them.

The tablet uses 3D graphene and a vapor chamber to keep the chipset cool. The chipset will be paired with 8 or 12 GB of RAM, the storage options are 128, 256 and 512 GB. There’s optional 4G connectivity, plus Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.2 with AAC and LDAC for audio. The USB-C port offers 3.1 Gen 1 speeds.

The tablet runs HarmonyOS 3.0 out of the box, which has some noticeable improvements. One is called the Card Folder, which lets you stack groups of widgets on top of each other, which helps keep your home screen clutter-free (switching between groups only takes a couple of taps). Huawei has also redesigned the multitasking interface to make it easier to use. You can have two apps side by side and two mobile app bubbles.

The MatePad Pro 11 promises a cinematic audio experience with 6 speakers: two tweeters and four woofers.

The tablet runs on an 8,300mAh battery, large enough for 11.5 hours of (local) video playback. The 888 powered model supports Huawei’s 66W SuperCharge, but comes with a 40W charger. The 870 has a 40W charge and comes with a 22.5W adapter.

On the back is a dual camera, with a 13 MP main module (f / 1.8 aperture, autofocus) and an 8 MP ultra wide angle (f / 2.2, fixed focus). The front camera has a resolution of 16 MP.

Huawei painted the tablet in a “Golden Black” color, which changes when light hits it from different angles. The back has a satin finish, which makes it more wear-resistant and keeps fingerprints at bay.

Time to mention some accessories. There is a revamped Huawei M-Pencil with a new color (white), a better grip and a smoother writing experience.

Additionally, there is a new magnetic smart keyboard with 1.5mm key travel. The keyboard is detachable if you want to keep it closed and the tablet further away. The easel of the case is adjustable from 120 ° up to 165 °, which helps when drawing with the stylus. The case has a holder for the M-Pen by the way.

And here’s a nice trick: the keyboard case has a built-in antenna, which turns it into a “Wi-Fi booster” (says Huawei), so you get better reception. The keyboard and case will come bundled with some versions of the tablet and will be optional for others.

Finally, a brief word on Huawei’s AppGallery. It is now one of the top 3 app markets, and HMS Core boasts around 203,000 apps. The AppGallery is also available on supported Windows PCs.
