Today at IFA 2022 Honor announced its new Dual Flagship strategy – in short, Honor is launching its foldable phones internationally. And because the company is “Embracing the Connected Future,” it teased the upcoming MagicOS 7.0, which aims to connect smartphones, PCs and IoT devices together.

Before we dive into the other important new announcements, let’s review the new launches. The Honor 70 is available in select European markets from today. In the UK, an 8/128 GB drive can be yours for £ 480 (with the option to split it into three installments of £ 160). In continental Europe, the 8/128 GB model will sell for € 550, the 8/256 GB model for € 600. We have a review of the Honor 70 to find out all about it.

The Honor Pad 8 will also be launched today. The 12-inch tablet will be available in various markets across Europe. In the UK you can get one (4/128 GB) for £ 250 (or 3x £ 83.33), in the mainland it’s € 330 with a 6/128 GB model also available for € 350.

The company is also updating its 14-inch laptop with Intel processor – the new Honor MagicBook 14 is equipped with a 12th generation Intel Core i5-12500H processor and can be configured with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 GPU. Honor laptop to offer OS Turbo, which improves energy efficiency by more than 20%. This means that the 75 Wh battery is enough for 17 hours of standby time. And there’s fast charging, so 15 minutes of charging equals 3.5 hours of battery life.

Pre-orders for the new Intel-based MagicBook 14 begin today in select European markets. The basic i5 version costs € 1,099, while the addition of the discrete RTX2050 GPU raises it to € 1,299. Deliveries and open sales begin on September 18th. Note: Honor also has a new MagicBook 14 with a Ryzen 6000 processor, but that hasn’t arrived in Europe yet.

Today Honor also introduces Spatial Audio, a next-generation AR and VR experience headset technology that uses accelerometers and gyroscopes to track your head and create an immersive 3D sound stage. Spatial Audio is capable of placing virtual sound sources at a distance of 15 cm (6 inches) and up to 10 m (33 feet). In addition to AR and VR, this technology can be used for movies, music and games.

Speaking of which, Honor has teamed up with Arloopa to challenge two famous artists, Yunuene and Timo Helgert, to create an on-site AR experience in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt (UNESCO World Heritage Site) centered around the iconic Wasserschloss building.

Okay, let’s talk about the Dual Flagship strategy. It will bring “the next foldable flagship smartphones and all-round flagship smartphones” to Europe and other regions of the world for a dual approach to the premium market.

Exact details are still unclear: Will the Honor Magic V arrive in Europe or will locals have to wait for Honor’s next fold? This will become clear in the near future. As for the “all-round flagship,” that role will continue to be filled by the Magic4 series and its sequels.

Honor 70 and Pad 8 launch with Magic UI 6.1 (based on Android 12). The next big version of the software will be called MagicOS 7.0 and will cover not only smartphones, but also PCs and IoT.

Most of the details are still hidden, but the company has revealed a feature: the new operating system will allow users to control an Honor laptop, smartphone and tablet with the same keyboard and mouse. Additionally, there will be seamless file sharing between devices. MagicOS 7.0 will be fully unveiled in the last quarter of 2022.

Before Honor will allow another way to collaborate for smartphones and PCs: it will extend support for Microsoft’s Phone Link (formerly Your Phone) internationally (currently only available in China). The Honor Magic4 Pro will be among the first international models to receive Phone Link support, the Honor 70 will soon receive it as an OTA update.
