introduction

The Honor 90 is the latest in the company’s numbered series. As such, it’s not a true flagship offering. This role appears to be currently reserved for the Magic line of devices. The Honor 90, on the other hand, is a solid midrange, with some very attractive aspects and features and an elegant and modern design.

Honor 90 review

Honor hasn’t skimped on the exterior at all. The Honor 90 is sleek and slim, well-built, lightweight and well-balanced, and has a universally rounded body for a great feel. Its design is also very elegant and even luxurious.

The Honor 90 is available in several eye-catching colors and interesting finishes. Our review unit comes in the newly released Peacock Blue variant, which is visually striking. It features a uniform, almost silky surface on the back in terms of texture and a playful “pop” of color that captures reflections of light. The Honor 90 is also available in a Diamond Silver version, like the unit we had for our hands-on review. In contrast, the rear actually has two distinct surfaces. It looks really stunning in person, with lots of reflections. Then there’s also Midnight Black and Emerald Green, which appear to be the two tame color options of the bunch.

Despite being a mid-range device at heart, the Honor 90 comes with some high-end features. One of its strong points is undoubtedly the 6.7-inch curved display. It’s a 10-bit panel with HDR10+ support and a whopping 1600 nits of advertised peak brightness. It also has 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3840Hz PWM dimming, as well as 400 degrees of dimming adjustment.

Then, there’s the impressive camera setup of the Honor 90. On the back, the phone has a massive 200MP, f/1.9 main camera along with a 12MP, f/2.2 ultrawide one with autofocus which can double as a powerful macro camera. On the front, the Honor 90 sports a 50MP ultrawide selfie. Both of these cameras are capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps and support EIS.

Honor 90 review

A 5,000mAh battery with 66W charging and additional features, like NFC, help the Honor 90 be a well-rounded device overall. It still has some notable omissions, such as the lack of official ingress protection and stereo speakers. It’s nothing dramatic, but still worth mentioning.

Unpacking

Before we get into the details regarding the Honor 90, we should take a look at the retail packaging. The phone ships in a simple two-piece cardboard box. There’s nothing particularly eye-catching about its design, but we can appreciate that it’s quite sturdy. There’s also a plastic holder for the phone itself inside to keep it safe during shipping.

Honor 90 review

Honor is very generous when it comes to package contents. First, the Honor 90 comes with 66W fast charging in the box and a USB Type-A to Type-C cable. The charger is proprietary, but the cable looks standard, which is nice to see. Inside the box is a good quality soft, clear TPU case, so you can start using your new phone straight away. It’s worth noting that some markets will not receive a charger in the box, while others will receive both a charger and a protective case. Check with your local dealer.
