The desktop, notebook and workstation market in China amounted to 11.66 million combined shipments for the first quarter, a slight decline from 11.75 million a year ago according to Channelsthe latest report Lenovo was once again the market leader with 4.29 million units sold for the period and a 37% market share. Dell was second with 1.39 million and 12% of the market, while HP was third with 0.97 million and 8% market share.

Asus (0.83 million) and Huawei (0.71 million) complete the top five positions. Desktop sales fared even worse with an 11% decline to 3.9 million units annually, while notebooks were the only product category to experience growth of 7.7 million units combined and one market share of 6%.

The ongoing COVID blockades across China are putting both PC supply and demand under stress. Supply chains have once again been hampered by shortages of components in the driver circuit components, while rising inflation and weakening consumer spending have limited demand for new PCs.

As for tablets, the Chinese market experienced a 13% drop in shipments as the demand momentum built up during the pandemic was lost. Apple was the clear leader in the Chinese market with 1.2 million tablets shipped for the period and a market share of 26%.

Huawei comes in second with 0.93 million shipments and 20% of the market, while Xiaomi, which relaunched its tablet range last year, takes third place with 0.6 million shipments and market share. 13%.

Honor was the only brand to record positive annual growth of 2% while it recorded 0.4 million shipments. Lenovo took fifth place with 0.3 million shipments and 7% market share. New entrants to the tablet market from the BBK group (vivo, Oppo and Realme) are expected to challenge established tablet manufacturers in the coming months.
