Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Civi 2 will have a pill-shaped cutout for its two selfie cameras, the Redmi K60 will likely have a Dynamic Island-style notification system, Realme also seems interested. If you’re cringing at the idea that Android makers are rushing to mimic Apple’s new design, ZTE has the perfect antidote.

The company will unveil the ZTE Axon 30S on September 26 (Monday) and will have an under-display camera. Check it out: no holes, pill-shaped or anything, no notch, just screen.

The phone will measure 7.8mm thick and weigh 192g, according to another official teaser. The Weibo post tries to sell it as thin and light, but that’s only half true.

Also, we’re not entirely sure why ZTE will be returning to the Axon 30 series (the last of which launched last year) when the Axon 40 series is already here. Perhaps this will be an updated version of the Axon 30 5G (even with a UD camera).

The Axon 30S may have gone through the TENAA, which revealed a smaller 6.67-inch display (AMOLED, FHD +), the Axon 30 5G had a whopping 6.92-inch display. The battery will have a greater capacity of 4,430mAh (compared to 4,200mAh). The 30 5G was a little lighter at 189g, which is odd considering its size.

Either way, the camera setup can be simplified to 64MP main, 5MP macro, and 2MP depth (leaving out the 8MP ultra wide angle). The selfie camera will have a resolution of 16 MP. That is if the ZTE 9042N is really the Axon 30S, of course.

Note that this device appears to be unrelated to the Axon 40 SE / Blade V40S, although that will also have an under-display camera.
