Apple’s mixed reality headset (XR) will go into mass production by March 2023 according to the latest DigiTimes report. Chinese contract manufacturer Pegatron is expected to be the main supplier of the device. Apple is believed to be launching its XR headphones at an event in April 2023 as the initial supply will be very limited.

The report specifies that the initial supply of XR headphones in the first year will be between 700,000 and 800,000 units, a figure lower than previous estimates of 2.5 million units. Lower supply values will not make the XR headset profitable for suppliers, although Pegatron and others will fulfill these orders so they can be better positioned for future AR / VR products across the board.
