Apple has released iOS 16.4 and brings several minor updates to the mobile operating system. The big news here is the ability to get web app notifications from within Safari. These notifications also include a badge count on the home screen and are also configurable with Focus mode.

Apple has also added Voice Isolation for cellular calls which should offer better ambient noise reduction. The feature was previously available on FaceTime and other third-party VoIP calling apps.

There are a total of 21 new emoji symbols with the new iOS release, including hand gestures, a pink heart, jellyfish, and a Wi-Fi symbol. Photos gets a neat feature that can remove duplicate photos and videos in iCloud Shared Photo Libraries.

Apple Books in iOS 16.4 brings back the page turn animation that was previously removed in iOS 16. There’s built-in support for Sony’s PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge controller, and crash detection improvements on the iPhone 14 series.

iOS 16.4 is available to install on iPhone 8 and later starting today.

  • Accessibility setting to automatically dim video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected
  • Fixes an issue where Ask to Buy requests from children may not appear on the parent’s device
  • Fixes issues where Matter-enabled thermostats may become unresponsive when paired with Apple Home
  • Crash Detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
