Apple has given direct confirmation that the iPhone is switching to USB-C. In an interview with The Wall Street newspaperGreg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing manager, said the company will replace the Door Lighting even though his team isn’t happy with the change.

The interview also involved software vice president Craig Federighi, but none of them revealed when exactly the move will take place.

Apple executives have said that “Europeans dictate the timing for European customers,” which is a sophisticated way to say nothing about the timeline of the switch. Joswiak declined to answer whether Apple will ship a connector sold outside the EU, but that seems very unlikely.

The executive also talked about Apple’s dedication to go its own way and trust its engineers rather than sticking to lawmakers’ standards and adopting third-party hardware. He even raised micro USB and how Apple was pushed to meet reckless requirements.
