Schools

The schools are particularly majestic. Age of Wushu offers PvE and PvP, with the latter shining the most during the endgame. Once the program is installed and launched, players join one of eight factions. Each class specializes in a different form of Martial Arts. Each form is considered “Good”, “Neutral” or “Bad”. Regardless of choice, each school teaches six in-house skills and five martial arts skill sets, with the latter comprising seven skills tailored to distinct weapon types.

Internal skills serve as a way to boost a character’s base stats, while martial arts skill sets unlock new offensive or passive skills. Leaving one school for another is possible, but mastering all eight classes is a full-time job. Depending on the spirituality of the School, one can subsequently join Reclusive Factions. These groups open up even more internal skills and martial arts skill sets. Age of Wushu expects students to abide by their school’s code of conduct.

Progression

Age of Wushu handles progression differently than other MMORPGs. Rather than a reward for defeating random enemies, you earn XP by immersing yourself in the world. Accumulated XP transforms into cultivation points that you can invest in a specific skill, although newcomers should primarily focus on developing their school’s internal skills.

While this eliminates the need to grind forage enemies, growing it is a rather lengthy undertaking. While there are ways to accelerate this process, finding nine other players to conduct team training is easier said than done in the current state of play. Thematically, it makes sense for a character to develop their craft through dedication and hard work. However, for the player, this translates into staring at an indicator that gradually fills up. Unless you purchase the VIP pass to allow offline cultivation, be prepared to leave the program running overnight. Otherwise, your character will stagnate.
