Presentation

The real selling point of EA’s FIFA series has always been its unmatched presentation. It is clear that the publisher is willing to spend a lot. Everything from the cheery, modern soundtrack to the sleek menu system makes FIFA 18 inviting.

The matchday experience is just as good. Stadium announcers blast team news before kick-off as crowds stir with chants, boos and cheers. The only real drawback is the commentary, but even this aspect is still better than in PES.

FIFA 18 Review | Gammick

As you’d expect from such a high-profile version, FIFA 18 looks great on the pitch. Even now the game graphics are unrivaled when it comes to sports games. With the team finally getting to grips with the Frostbite engine, they could deliver a wonderful title.

The players look ultra realistic and have a lot more detail than ever. Exactly the same can be said for stadiums as well. As previously mentioned, the animations have also seen a marked improvement, which helps the action on the pitch flow more effectively.

Final verdict

For the most part, FIFA 18 still isn’t as great as PES when it comes to gameplay. While the developers have made major improvements, this entry still lacks the fluidity of its competitor.

Still, FIFA 18 ranks first in almost every other area. An Ultimate Team expansion, gameplay improvements and presentation that is second to none help it stand out.

And despite what people might say, most fans want to play in fully licensed teams without having to change the official names themselves. Hardcore gamers may prefer PES. The vast majority of football fans, however, will likely be enticed by the coolest and most accessible FIFA 18.
