Far Cry 5 is a great game that has been somewhat torn down from its predecessors. For years, the Far Cry series was known for each release very different from the previous entry. However, since Ubisoft took gold with Far Cry 3, subsequent games have followed exactly the same formula.
Has Ubisoft made enough gameplay changes to keep things fresh and interesting? Far Cry 5 is fun and comfortable to play, but things are starting to look a little stale in many ways.
Characters
At this point in the Far Cry series there seems to be a déjà vu effect. You expect there to be a nerve-wracking antagonist who has few moments to really shine, but leaves an impact on the player when he does. Far Cry 5 attempts to replicate this success with the character of Joseph Seed.
The previous iconic antagonists Vaas and Pagan Min are difficult acts to follow. Joseph Seed simply fails to bring memorable energy to the game. That in no way means he’s not a good character, though. The few scenes with Seed are really beautiful and underlined with a chilling sense of tension. He is simply not present enough.
The duties of the antagonist are transferred to other members of the Seed family. From the silent rage of the violent Jacob Seed, to the smiling and creepy actions of John Seed, and finally to the pleasant restlessness of the mysterious Faith Seed, there are many characters within the game who are capable of bringing Far Cry 5 to the level of previous villains. . Each has their own plot and set piece highlights to keep you invested in the game.
History
The story itself is interesting enough. It chronicles the efforts of a fledgling congressman to rid Hope County, Montana, of a ferocious doomsday cult.
This initial storyline is reinforced by varied and colorful secondary characters. Such characters include a preacher always dressed in a flak jacket, the quiet leader of a desperate resistance hidden in the mountains of Montana, and various deputies who rely on the rookie to help them end the dangerous Seed family.
