Furthermore, the 7 jar cake does not contain butter and you can replace the plain yogurt with a vegetable alternative, such as it soy or oatmeal yogurt: this makes this cake also ideal for those who are lactose intolerant. You can also customize it as you prefer using different flavors of yoghurt: coffee, fruit, pistachio or classic vanilla! And, why not, add some natural flavoring such as lemon or orange zest. The 7 jar cake saw a moment of great celebrity a few years ago, but it still turns out to be one of the simplest and best preparations of home cooking.

Ingredients for 8 people

  • White yogurt: 1 jar
  • Flour 00: 2 jars
  • Potato starch or cornstarch: 1 jar
  • Sunflower seed oil: 1 jar
  • Granulated sugar: 1 jar
  • Baking powder: ½ sachet
  • Vanilla extract: 1 tsp
  • Eggs: 3
  • Preparation: 20 minutes
  • Cooking: 40 minutes
  • Total: 60 minutes

Preparation

Break the eggs into a bowl and add the sugar. Whip with the electric whisk at maximum speed until the mixture is light and fluffy.

After about 5-6 minutes the mixture should have reached the right consistency. Then add the yogurt pot, seed oil and vanilla extract.

Mix everything with the whisk at low speed.

Add the flours to the liquids: first the jars of 00 flour, then the jar of starch. Mix and add the yeast.

As soon as you have obtained a smooth mixture, proceed to oil and lightly flour a 22 cm mold.

Pour the mixture into the mold and bake in a preheated static oven at 180° for 40 minutes. After 38-39 minutes, remember to do the toothpick test by inserting a long toothpick in the center of the cake and checking, with your fingertips, that it is dry.

When the cake has cooled, remove it from the mold and arrange it on a serving plate, dusting the surface with icing sugar.

Serve your 7 jar cake as a snack or for breakfast, with a glass of milk or juice.

Advice and tips

You can enrich your cake with 7 jars with 50 g of drops of dark chocolate.

You can add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon or ½ jar of chocolate powder, replacing it with ½ jar of flour.

You can replace sunflower oil with the corn oil. However, we do not recommend using olive oil.

You can also add pieces of fresh fruit such as apples or peaches to the dough.

You can substitute 00 flour with wholemeal or type 1 flour.

You can vary the granulated sugar using brown sugar or the variety “mascobado”.

The 7 jar cake it will keep for about 4-5 days under a pie bell.

It can also be frozen: we advise you to divide it into slices and freeze individual portions, to be thawed if necessary. It can stay in the freezer up to 2 months.
