Originally slated for release in December, Valve’s Steam Deck was set to be the killer game system this holiday season. Now, however, the company has confirmed that it will not ship any Steam Decks to consumers until February 2022.

In a blog post, Valve apologized and at the same time blunt. “We are sorry for this: we have done our best to circumvent global supply chain problems, but due to material shortages, components are not reaching our production facilities in time to meet our initial launch dates.”

This complicates an already confused system. Previously, those who booked Steam Deck orders first received December estimates, while others received 2022 estimates. Now, first reserved orders are expected to ship in Q1 2022, while others are expected to ship in Q2. of 2022.

Furthermore, these are not actual pre-orders but reservations. And while Valve is confident in their ability to convert bookings into orders, there’s a chance some orders might escape the cracks.

Not surprisingly, Valve blamed the delay on material shortages. In its statement, the company wrote, “While we have done our best to take global supply chain issues into account (by this we mean that we have taken the extra time into account to account for these risks and have worked with multiple suppliers. of components), our production plans were still affected. “

Continuing, they wrote: “Material shortages and delays meant that parts did not arrive on time at our manufacturing facilities. Missing parts along with logistical challenges mean delays for Steam Deck, so we had to suspend shipments for two months until February. “

First impressions of the Steam Deck have been very positive and this makes this news a little more difficult to digest. But at least it looks like this early game system will be worth the wait!
