There hasn’t been a real Nintendo Direct since September 4, 2019. But Nintendo has the next one scheduled and promises we’ll take a look at their 2021 game lineup.

Nintendo fans need to set their own alarms. The new Nintendo Direct will air Wednesday February 17 at 2 p.m. ET.

Nintendo posted this news to unsuspecting fans on Twitter. They promise to show players “about 50 minutes of information focused on games available such as Super #SmashBrosUltimate and games coming to #NintendoSwitch in the first half of 2021”.

At this point, fans can only speculate what kind of news Nintendo will release. But the big hope for many fans is about The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Many gamers have noted that Nintendo Direct will arrive just four days before The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary. For the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. in 2020, the company celebrated by releasing Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

This compilation contained HD versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. The company also released an online-only battle royale game called Super Mario Bros. 35 and put Super Mario All-Stars on Nintendo Switch Online. And all of this added up to more bizarre releases like a special Mario Game & Watch and even the ambitious real-life / Switch-powered racing game, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.

What does all this mean for Legend of Zelda fans? With Link and Zelda’s anniversary coming up, some fans are hoping for Switch ports of the Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Windwaker and Twilight Princess games. Other fans would have settled for a full-fledged sequel to the hit game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

While these hopes of the Zelda franchise are speculation only, Smash Bros. fans have something more definitive to look forward to. Nintendo has promised that we will receive news about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With any luck, Nintendo will reveal the next character in the game after Sephiroth.

The only way to find out for sure what “The Big N” is up to is to watch the 50 minute broadcast on February 17th!
