ZTE plans to announce the nubia Z50 Ultra with a fourth-generation under-display camera, revealed Ni Fei, president of mobile devices at the Chinese company. In a long post on Weibo, he explained that the nubia brand has been in the smartphone industry for over a decade and the new Ultra will have a new solution that has been in development for six years and is the “culmination of nubia technology”.

The nubia brand is partially owned by ZTE, and its China operations are controlled by the smartphone and networking equipment maker. Devices with under-screen selfie cameras have been a thing for over two years, starting with the Axon 20, and the nubia brand got the UD treatment with the launch of the Red Magic 7 Pro gaming device.

The nubia Z50 Ultra will be the first flagship with this feature and we are not surprised that Ni is betting on the smartphone. The device itself has been leaked in schematics posted by Digital Chat Station, and we can see the pointed edges of the phone with flat sides. The camera island will be rectangular, with the main shooters positioned on the left side.

The screenshots also reveal a sort of notification/alert slider that will have a rough texture; the bottom will have room for a speaker grille, the SIM slot and USB-C port, while the top will have an IR blaster. The phone has already been spotted in a spy photo and we expect to see it announced next month.
