YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, one of the most prominent women in the tech world, just announced she’s stepping down from her role. In a letter to YouTube employees, Wojcicki explains that the reason you stepped down as CEO is to focus on your family, health and passion projects.

She will be succeeded by Neal Monhan, who worked closely with Wojcicki for many years and has worked under her on YouTube since 2015. Monhan first joined Google in 2007 with the acquisition of DoubleClick and eventually became Senior Vice President of Display and Video Ads. He eventually became Chief Product Officer of YouTube in 2015 and led YouTube’s Trust and Safety team.

Susan is not leaving YouTube just yet. Her letter explains that she will support Monhan through the transition and will continue to work with the YouTube teams, coaching team members and meeting creators. Longer term, Wojcicki “has agreed with Sundar to take on an advisory role at Google and Alphabet,” where he will offer guidance and advice on Google’s businesses.

Susan has a unique place in Google’s history and has made the most incredible contribution to the products used by people all over the world […] We are very grateful to her for everything she has done over the past 25 years” – Larry Page and Sergey Brin (Founders of Google) in a statement.

Susan Wojcicki was the one who rented out her garage for Page and Brin to start Google, she would eventually become a Google employee a year later.
