According to last week’s survey results, many of you have a glass screen protector and silicone case on your phone. Things haven’t changed much from two years ago, although the relative popularity of some things has.
Let’s start with the protector: almost half of users have a glass one on their phone. This also means we’ve heard a lot of complaints in the comments about curved screens. This makes applying a glass protector problematic (and the protectors themselves are more expensive than flat ones).
Plastic screen protectors have increased in popularity since the 2021 survey, although they remain in a very distant second place. However, a self-applied plastic protector is now a more popular choice than simply maintaining the factory-installed protector (it was the other way around two years ago).
Based on the comments section, most of you don’t believe that bare Gorilla Glass is resistant enough against scratches and cracks. Nonetheless, a quarter of voters believe that it is actually sufficient and do not use any additional protection.
Moving on to cases, again half of you have a silicone case. This was the most popular option in 2021 and is even more so now. Meanwhile, thin cases have declined somewhat and are now just as common as bulky, rugged cases. Fancy cases – those made of leather or with extra features – aren’t particularly popular.
When it comes to phone protection, a case is basically a must: only about 1 in 10 don’t have one. This is a much smaller number than the number of people without screen protectors.
The last question in the survey was about subscription services like AppleCare+ and Samsung Care+. They cost a monthly fee but promise a much cheaper screen replacement. Very few people use them (less than 7%), perhaps because the cases and protectors do a fairly good job and screen replacement is rarely necessary.
