As part of Apple’s plan to reduce its reliance on Samsung, the company wants to diversify its OLED supply chain by bringing Chinese OLED maker BOE into the mix. Up until now, Apple has relied solely on Samsung and LG, with the former taking the majority of orders.

BOE excluded from initial order for iPhone 15 OLED panel

However, Apple’s iPhone 15 production will not be planned as BOE panels have yet to meet quality requirements. Reportedly, BOE’s OLED output has inconsistent yields, and there’s a major light leak around the cutout for Dynamic Island.

However, the report originating from The elec suggests that BOE isn’t completely out of the mix. The Chinese manufacturer appears to be making progress, but it won’t arrive in time for the initial OLED order, so it will participate in subsequent batches. As a result, Samsung will have to pick up the slack and start production a month ahead of schedule.
