Earlier this week Oppo unveiled the Reno8 series, which comes with three new chipsets. All three phones have high refresh rate AMOLED displays, 50MP main cameras, and 4,500mAh batteries that charge at 80W. Could any of the three be your next phone?

We will start with the Oppo Reno8 Pro + as the most impressive model of the trio. It features the Dimensity 8100-Max chipset, paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 memory. This will be a fast phone. The Dimensity is aided by the custom MariSilicon X chip which performs AI-based processing on photos and videos from the 50MP (1 / 1.56 “) IMX766 sensor.

The Oppo Reno8 Pro has chosen the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1: can Qualcomm’s new mid-range offering resist MediaTek’s Dimensity 8000 line? We are curious to find out. This phone has a slightly smaller 6.62-inch AMOLED display, which still runs at 120Hz. The phone’s body is pretty much the same overall size, though.

Even the Oppo Reno8 isn’t really more compact, differing by fractions of a millimeter. It has the smallest screen here, 6.43 “, and runs at 90Hz. This is powered by the Dimensity 1300, an upgraded version of the 1200 chipset. The camera setup is similar, although unlike the other two there is none. an ultra-wide 8MP camera or the extra power of MariSilicon.

The Reno8 Pro + and Reno8 vanilla go on sale in China on June 1st (Wednesday), the Pro will have to wait until June 11th. Now let’s take a quick look at the prices:

8/128 GB 8/256 GB 12/256 GB
Oppo Reno8 Pro + CNY 3,700 ($ 549 / € 513 / ₹ 42,600) CNY 4,000 ($ 594 / € 554 / ₹ 46,100)
Oppo Reno8 Pro CNY 3,000 ($ 445 / € 416 / ₹ 34,500) CNY 3,200 ($ 475 / € 444 / ₹ 36,800) CNY 3,500 ($ 519 / € 485 / ₹ 40,300)
Oppo Reno8 CNY 2,500 ($ 371 / € 347 / ₹ 28,800) CNY 3,000 ($ 445 / € 416 / ₹ 34,500)

We don’t have the global pricing or even a launch window for the Reno8 series yet. Note that there is a model called “Reno8 Lite”, but that it is a renamed Reno7 Lite, so we don’t think it’s a true member of the new series.

Speaking of the Reno7 series, that didn’t (yet) have a Pro + model. Also, the Reno7 Pro display ran at 90Hz. Aside from that, the old and new Pros are comparable. Of course, the older model is slightly cheaper (it’s ₹ 37,750 on Amazon.in), but is that enough to forgo the improved screen and new chipset?

OnePlus 10R, Ace, and Ace Racing Edition all share the Dimensity 8100-Max chipset. The 10R model costs ₹ 39,000 if you get the 5,000mAh / 80W version. It has a screen and cameras comparable to the Reno8 Pro +. The Racing Edition replaces AMOLED with a 6.59-inch IPS LCD and its price has dropped to 2,000 CNY. For comparison, the normal ace (on which 10R is based) starts at CNY 2,500.

There is also the OnePlus Nord 2T and vivo T2x, both powered by the Dimensity 1300. The Nord pairs the Reno8 with a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED display and manages to keep the ultra-wide 8MP camera. The vivo doesn’t, but it does offer a 6.58-inch 120Hz IPS LCD and a larger 6,000mAh battery (44W charging), which may be more to your liking. Sales of the Nord 2T began earlier this week at € 400 for the 8 / 128GB model. The vivo T2x will be launched on June 6th.
