The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android features a dual-pane interface for tablets. What usually happens in these cases is that these new features are tested in the beta channel for a while (it can be weeks or even months) and then finally get to everyone.

Of course, we hope the same logic applies here, as the dual-pane UI makes a lot more sense on tablets than a simple scaled-up version of the phone UI.

WhatsApp for Android is getting a dual-pane view for tablets

The first version of WhatsApp compatible with Android tablets came out to beta testers last year, even though it didn’t have split view. You can see the new UI, which appears to be available to those in the beta now, in the new screenshot above.

Unsurprisingly, your chat list is always visible on the left so you can quickly switch between conversations without having to go back first. Split view is also available for the Calls and Status tabs.

I hope this comes out of beta testing soon.
