vivo just announced its V3 imaging chip, which will premiere 4k movie portrait mode in upcoming flagship phones, similar to the iPhone’s cinematic mode.

The announcement is more of a teaser from the company’s vice president and general manager of brand and product strategy – Jia Jingdong – on Weibo. The V3 is the first big announcement at vivo’s imaging festival, which takes place from 23 to 31 July.

In a lively web post, Jia Jingdong talks about the self-developed 6nm V3 chip and its capabilities. It will enable vivo smartphones to capture portrait mode video up to 4K resolution and offer advanced post-processing editing functions.

The chip will likely enable more features, outside of the 4k portrait mode feature. There’s also the question of which device will preview the chip.

Solid cash would be on the upcoming vivo X100 imaging flagship, which is due in Q4 of this year.
