People have been searching for a way to edit tweets for years, perhaps since the very beginning of Twitter. And now finally there is one. On trial.
However, this is a huge step forward for Twitter, and the edit button is expected to be released more broadly by the end of this month. Only in this case “more broadly” means for those who subscribe to Twitter Blue, the $ 4.99 per month service that gives access to premium features.
It’s also where you can get early access to new features, like the next edit button. The test will be “localized to a single country at first” and will expand later as Twitter learns how people use it. The company promises to pay “close attention to how the feature affects how people read, write and interact with” the tweets. In case you are wondering, the “single country” has not been named, so your guess is as valid as ours.
An edited tweet looks like you can see in the screenshot above, and even if you’re not in the test group, or don’t subscribe to Twitter Blue, you’ll still be able to see if a tweet has been edited – in fact, everyone will.
