Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S23 series at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1st. The lineup is expected to consist of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is said to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC under the hood. However, a new report from 9to5Google claims that the Galaxy S23 trio will be powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a higher clock speed.

The publication says it has seen documentation revealing that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 used in the Galaxy S23 series smartphones will be called “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy” and will have clock speeds of up to 3.36GHz instead of 3.2GHz (Prime core) on the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (SM8550-AB) which we have seen on the iQOO 11, nubia Red Magic 8 Pro and a few other phones.

The Galaxy S23 series will use the

The rest of the features of this customized Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are expected to remain largely the same as the regular version, meaning that the Prime core clocked up to 3.36GHz will be joined by four Performance cores clocked up to 2.8GHz. GHz and three core Efficiency cores going up to 2GHz.

The modified 4nm chip is also said to be manufactured by the Samsung foundry instead of TSMC. However, it is unclear whether Samsung will use the “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy” branding extensively or keep it limited to the Unpacked event.
